What the 6 milliamp rating buys you
Ground fault devices come in two broad classes. Equipment protection trips at a much higher leakage current and is there to protect wiring and gear. Personnel protection trips at 6 mA, low enough to matter to a person standing in water. This breaker is the 6 mA type, and it meets NEC 2008 standards for pool pumps.
